Exclamation Why do I have a Leak?

Hey everybody, I just made the little boost leak detector that Trey spooner shows on youtube. I found that I have air coming out of the oil fill spout attached to the valve cover. Why would I have air coming out of there? I could never get my psi gauge to register any psi and it was coming out of the valve cover pretty good. I thought it was the intercooler pipe at first but narrowed it down to the filler neck. Is this normal? or is it pointing to big problems? Thanks.

FYI: the truck seems a bit sluggish but not significantly, and MPG is the same as its always been, 12 mpg in the city and 15-16 on the highway.

Crank case ventilator is still hooked up...
You need to take the intermediate adapter off the turbo intake boot and put the boost leak detector there...

Its the black hard plastic thing in between the 2 intake boots...
2 8 or 10mm bolts...

Glad you were able to find the video helpful.

You will always have a little bit of air escape from the fill cap, especially with the CCV still in place.

You said its coming from the valve covers too?

Were you really want to look for boost leaks is the boots. But you can also have them at the turbo outlet, in the intercooler, and under the spyder going to the plenum.

I have found that a new set of boots and some plenum reinforcing rings fix 99% of all boost leaks.

I also have one at my AIH fitting, but thats my own doing. I can never find the dang oring for the fitting and I cant get myself to buy one because I know the second I do I will find the one I have here somewhere.

OK, cool. I'll get back to it after the holiday. The air was just coming from the filler neck where it meets the valve cover not actually from the cover seals. There was so much though that i wouldn't have been able to hear anything from any of the other places to look. When I get back to it I'll get out the soapy water too. Thanks for the quick replies guys.
