I have a Lariat 5.0, 3.73, 6 1/2' bed, and the HD payload package (17"wheels with LT tires). I don't have many miles on it yet (less than 1000), but the overall mpg's are right on 17.0. That's with a pretty good combination of city and highway, with some interstate miles too. After the tranny is warmed up, I try to do some hard accelerations most days, and at least a couple WOT per week to help with the engine break-in process. I drive fairly conservative other than that. My first tank was lower mpg's but most days I'm averaging over 18 mpg now. Speeds higher than 60 or 65 drop the economy too.
I have the 5.0 and 373 on my 12 and I get 17+/- combined and I drive about 75 everywhere I go.....its a great set up in my opinion and its great with my trailers as well
thought 11 was the last time the 3:73 gears and the 5.0 where offered together?
I'm not sure where you got that from. The only thing I can think of that changed after 2011 in regards to the 5.0L and 3.73 gears is the 2011 FX4 5.0L's came standard with 3.73's I believe in the 2012 they made 3.55's standard and 3.73's optional.
With that said, I've got a 2011 FX4 Supercab 5.0L myself with 3.73's and I generally avarage high teens with it. 18.5 is about regular for city. I have had it at about 20mpg mixed city/highway.

my dealer said they didn't make them after the 11 model year, that's why I went with the 3:55 and the 5.0. I think ill go pich a fit with the owner of the dealer ship. we just became friends after the web sales guy gave out my phone number with out asking me!

go to "build your own" on fords site. you can build a 5.0 3:73 all day long.

I didn't look at other trims, cabs, or wheelbases, but the 2WD STX RCSB can't be configured with 3.73s and a 5.0. Changing to the electronic locking 3.73 switches to 4WD; changing to either of the other 3.73s drops you from the 5.0 to the D37.
FWIW, I have the 5.0 and 3.31s, and I'm getting an indicated 18.6 MPG. I only have a bit over 1K miles on the clock, so I don't have enough data to determine if that's accurate.
have a 2012 supercab 8' box 3.73LS with about 3500 miles on her now. when I first got it, it was almost 16mpg. now with mostly short city trips it is down to 14.7mpg
Just hit 2000 miles on a 2013 5.0 with 3.73's and I rarely see 17mpg, but usually 16.4, 16.5........... Was one of the reasons I insta bought this truck on the lot, was the color i wanted and 3.73's amongst several other factors that made me pull the trigger....

i've never priced out a 2wd truck, as they are useless to me so i did not know that.

Yeah, if I were you I would go pitch a fit. I mean I don't know how important your rear end ratio was to you...But the fact that you were misinformed about something like that is in itself a pretty big deal.
