hard shifting and blinking overdrive light

Well i hopped in my truck this morning which is a 95 f150 xlt with the 351 and e40d transmission and I noticed that I have no speedometer or odometer. I then noticed that it is taking a long time to shift from 1st to 2nd and when it does it shifts very hard. I also noticed that the first time it shifts hard the overdrive button on the shift lever flashes for the entire time the truck is running. I made it to work and drove it home and it had all the smae symptoms except the idle is now goofed up as well. Is this due to a faulty idle position sensor or is my transmission toast?
p.s. I checked the tranny fluid and is is still pink and does not smell burnt.

Don't run the truck like that!, since you have no signal from the speedometer or the PSOM the transmission (which is the electronically controlled E4OD) is working in fail-safe mode. It's sending a lot of pressure, that's why it shifts so hard, so keep running it like that and you'll really mess it up. The PSOM needs to be replaced in order to keep the truck operational. Of course, all of this could be caused just by one little dashboard fuse, so check those first.

Well, it's pretty unbelievable in my mind but I replaced a 15 amp fuse inderneath the dash for the speedometer and fixed the whole problem. The truck literally felt like the transmission was ready to drop out of the bottom. I really appreciate the help, thanks.

Not really unbelievable, since the E4OD is a completely computer controlled transmission, so no power equals NO control, so it goes into LIMP mode..

Gotta love when it's the simple things. The lesson we learned today? to carry a bunch of assorted fuses in the glove box.

it's very simple actually.if the transmission brain didn't know how fast your truck was going, how could it possibly know which gear to give you? it was lost without this vital info see?
