putting a 460 in a 1995 F150??
I have a 95 F150 4x4 reg cab short bed with a 5.0, that has a bad thrust bearing. So I need to replace it, but i like to upgrade things when i replace them. I've posted a few topics asking about different swaps, but now I have a new option.
On Craigslist, there is a 94 F350 4x4 with a 460 and auto (E4OD?) for 700 obo. It says come hear it run, and he said the engine has less than 150K on it.
So if I bought this truck, would I have everything I need to swap the 460 into my F150? I assume I would need to use new motor mounts, and just install the 460/E4OD/T-case from the F350 into my truck. Now my truck has push button 4x4, and this F350 has manual 4x4, so what steps would have to be done to install that? Just cut through the floorboard? And the Transmission crossmember from the F350. Then I would have to have the drive shaft cut, right? Also I've read that the 460 is heavier than the 302, so I would need to use the coil springs from the F350?
What about the exhaust? Can I just take the exhaust off the F350 and put it on my truck? Or will my 5.0 Y-pipe work.
Would this be a reasonable and straight forward swap? Sounds like the 460 would give me unquestionably more power, and would be worth the work. Would you all agree?

exhaust will not work. you will need to use the 460 exhaust, and shorten it.
the F-350 has leaf springs, your 150 has coil springs. so that will not work. you will need to find heavier coil springs.
you will also need to use the 460 computer, the one in your 150 will not work with the 460.
but since you will have the whole F-350 to use as a donor, you will also have everything you will need to do the job.

Your existing truck should be mass-air (MAF) which is highly sought after. If the existing transmission is an E4OD then I would SERIOUSLY considering keeping the MAF setup, install the 460/E4OD combo, use your exisiting transfer case. Budget for a custom tune to run that 7.5L then you would be set with a great combo to add some go-fast goodies.
Get the air tube between the engine and airbox/MAF meter from a Cali. emission 7.5L truck, extend a few sensor wires then you should be up and running relatively easy. Of course there are other mods you will need to do to get that 7.5L engine in your truck as mentioned above, but the electronics side has the potentially to be very doable.
If your truck has a 4R70W this swap is going to be a little more difficult to swap in the 7.5L/E4OD combo and switch back to a Speed Density based PCM and wiring.

For the front springs use Moog CC844 from a 2wd F350 with the 460. You don't want the CC844s though. They're like $60-80 for the pair.
Couldn't a 5.8L MAF comptuer run the 460 with the addition of some tuning and injectors?
Since the OP is looking at a donor truck swapping the harness and computer over and going with SD isn't really a big deal if you didn't want to tweak a 5.8 computer.
You could also go ODBII and use the 96-97 Cali 460 computer...

That's for a 5.8 but may be workable. I don't think it's worth the time, I would just run SD.
Oh, and swapping a 460 into an F150 is NOT emissions legal for what it's worth.
