Looking at truck, Appreciate any insight

Hello all, Im currently looking at buying a 99.5 with the 7.3. Here is a video of the walkaround:

He says the lowest he will go is $9800. I figure at that price I can get things fixed for much less than what comparable ones are going for.

1999.5 FORD F250 LARIAT CREW CAB 4X4
189,000 miles
7.3 POWERSTROKE DIESEL
TOOLBOX
BEDLINER
FOUR WHEEL DRIVE
OFFROAD PACKAGE
TRAILER TOWING PACKAGE
SHIFT ON THE FLY ELECTRONIC TRANSFER CASE
KEYLESS ENTRY
ICE COLD AIR CONDITIONING
AM/FM STEREO CD/CASSETTE
POWER WINDOWS/LOCKS/MIRRORS

This is why I love this site... I wouldn't have even thought about that.

The only things I can see with the truck is that it is not a tow package truck, it looks like a standard 4x4 spring pack, that's not a bad thing but the paddle mirrors give it away. During the video of it running as he's showing the block heater plug, you can hear the belt chirping a little bit, which is something to keep in mind. . The brake pedal seems to have more wear on it than my 290k ex. Not a bad thing but just figured its worth pointing out. The last thing is green coolant, it's fine and dandy but I hope the SCA levels were kept in check. It looks like a nice truck and seems like a fair price, up in the rust belt that truck would be worth 14k being its rust free! Just give the truck a trough once over, make sure the trans fluid isn't dark brown, burnt, or black. You get the picture! Oh and it sounded like the batteries were a little weak when it cranked. Good luck and keep us updated!

Bump back to the top for you! One more thing mentioned in the video, it might need minor front end work because of the steering wheel play.

Lowball them at $8500. Around here that would be in rough condition. Mine is 2000 f250 with 191000 for $8700. I know a dent is sure with the age. But every piece is dinged it looks like in the video. Just check it over closely.

thanks for the insight all. I talked him from a "firm-ish $11.5k" down to $9800. Around here, a totally rusted out truck go for 13 so even in rough shape, I would much rather have a rust free truck to work with. Still kicking it around, will talk to him again monday

oh and as far as the towing package goes, according to the ebay listing which has the "original window sticker" (I checked the vins and they are the same but who knows), it does say tow package credit. I know the mirrors arent towing mirrors but could it have come from the factory like that?

I still have the window sticker from mine. I ordered the tow pkg and the small mirrors ( why I don't remember), but to answer your question, it could have been ordered that way. The option gave you a choice.

I wonder if the truck "runs and drives like it should"......? Maybe he could address that a couple more times.

  • That is a sissy-damn add-on to the nose... a bird-strike can bend that.
  • The overhead can likely be fixed for pennies or free... many do this.
  • The only mods I see are the goose-neck in the bed and the GP relay LED (in the South?)
  • The tires look like they have a while to go.
  • That upholstery is amazing... well cared for. I know from experience the Lariat package has a quiet cab... for a Ford 7.3L.
This is a nice foundation. You'll likely be needing some somewhat expensive things over the course of the next 75K miles - like sensors and injectors... possibly transmission service. It's still worth it... a shiny new truck like this starts at $45K, isn't as inexpensive/easy to maintain, and I suspect won't go as far as this 7.3L (over time) for the same cost per mile. I'd want one with fewer dings, but it would jack the price up.

$0.02

I looked at this thread but never watched the video. It may just be me, but looking from just the body stand point, it looks to beat to be worth 10k to me. Thats just my opionion. I can find them down here for that price with not near the body damage.

I know there are deals out there, but even with technology it's hard to check every region of Craigslist, autotrader, etc. Body damage doesn't bother me as much as long as there isn't any rust. The interior is nice, carfax showed transmission serviced at 190k (don't know what that means though).
Having a way to fly in and have them pick me up is also nice since I would have to do it all in a weekend. I'm a chiropractor by trade and sometimes it's hard taking multiple days off.

Still looking around. Can't talk to the the guy until tomorrow anyway. The video walk around and seeing it drive was a plus. It would have been better if he just shut up and let me listen to the sounds but at least I know it runs.
