1966/1979 body swap

I have a 1966 f250 2wd, and a 1979 f150 4wd. I would like to put the 66 body on the 79 frame and running gear. I know that you can cut out a small section of frame behind the cab on a 79, and shorten the frame so the wheel on the 66 bed line up proper with the 79 rear end. My problem is that my 79 is a short box. Can the frame on my 79 be lengthened in the same area to get the same results. (By the way I also posted this on the 73-79 page)

Thanks, 66f250

There is no know issue for you not being able to stretch the chassis, as long as you keep in mind doing the things necessary to keep the strength there. You don't want a break and become a death in a motor vehicle.

From what I have read, the 73-79 frames are also wider than the 65-66 behind the cab.
Any frame fab like that needs to be done by someone with serious frame/welding knowledge and skills. Otherwise you may end up with an unsafe mess.

If you didn't want to cut the frame on the '79, you could modify the bed on the '66 to be a short bed by cutting the appropriate amounts before & after the wheel wells. I suppose either method will be a lot of work but it's just another idea.

It would actually be easier to transfer the 79 running gear to the 66 frame.

Thanks guys for the input. Not to worried about the welding part just where to cut and stretch. Is there a specific place on the frame best to cut?
