04 F 150 4X4 STX

Have been looking for a good truck the last few weeks after selling mine. Not wanting bells and whistles, just a good truck to beat around in and hunt out of.

I've found a 04 STX 4X4. I had rather have the 5.4 engine but I don't really pull things a whole lot. This one has the 4.6. I see the gas mileage sucks which it seems like all full size trucks do unless you get something new.

Anyway, is there anything that y'all have found to do to the engines to get more gas mileage out of them? Maybe even more power? Thanks.....

Buy a ScanGuage II or similar unit that monitors your trucks fuel mileage. Adjust your driving habits to increase mileage.

You didn't say what mileage you are getting. About the only thing I know of that will make a noticeable difference is to get a tuner and run a custom tune. Even then don't expect a big difference. Remember you're pushing around over 2 1/2 tons.

Ive noticed i get better gas mileage with my 07 5.4 then i did with my 04 4.6. I think its because of the extra power to push all that weight easier.
