87 F350 6.9l - Dies while driving won't turn over
Have a bit of a relic in a 1987 F350 6.9l with a C6 Auto Trans
I am not much of a mechanic but here is the issue about a week ago I started having a problem where the truck once it got hot and had been driven for a bit it would die - like it was out of gas foot on pedal and no gas going to anything coast to side of road and sit there for a while. Won't turn over, won't do anything turn the key it just does nothing at all no click no nothing - wait a while and it will start but I have to crank the hell out of it to get it to start.
I get that it dies - not sure why it is dying but i get that the real question is why won't it even try to turn over at first - like if i wait a while i can try but i have to crank the hell out of it - at first it does nothing i turn the key and nothing at all happens.
Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like you have battery/electrical issues.
when it gets hot, you are loosing connection to the electrical system causing the fuel shutoff switch to turn off fuel flow.
then once it cools off the bad connection re makes a connection letting everything work again.
i would start by cleaning battery connections, and the ground wire connections at the block and body.
this should fix the problem.

Thanks so much for your reply - could I ask you would that fuel shutoff also make it so that the car doesn't even try to turn over - it is as if I am doing nothing no clicking no sounds no engine turning over - I never saw that happen before - it is as if the battery were disconnected. Then all of a sudden it just works - I have to crank the hell out of it to get it started but it just works - and starts no problem.
Thanks for the help -

If you say so - you certainly know more than me - but good point to note - i do not lose power to anything - lights work - horn works - gauges work - everything works just turn the key and nothing happens. Nothing not even a click or a sound - nothing.
