Dana 44 or 60 in the front of my 79 F250?

I have a 79 F250 Custom and was wondering if I had a dana 44 or dana 60 in the front. I assume it has a dana 60 in the rear... is that right? I heard f250 snow fighters could come with dana 44 (even though it didnt happen often) so I figured it could be either the 44 or 60 or maybe a 50... I appreciate the help in advance.

I would have included a picture but I dont know how to do the URL thing to add them. Sorry

Someone else will chime in, but I'm 99.9% sure you would have a 44. The number will be raised in the casting in the web between pumpkin and axle. Bottom left when looking at the diff from the front.

9/16" or 1/2" front cover bolts? Dana 60 fronts have 9/16" wrench size heads on the bolts. How wide is the lockout hub? Dana 60's are almost 4" across. Pictures would help too.

URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. A URL is a formatted text string used by Web browsers, email clients and other software to identify a network resource on the Internet. Network resources are files that can be plain Web pages, other text documents, graphics, or programs.

So you have to have your photos uploaded on the internet and then use the url for the pictures you want to show on the forum.
Photobucket.com is a simple way to upload and store your pictures and it even provides you the url to use in your posts.
And it's free.
I would be nice if we could upload the pictures directly to the forum itself and have them host it but that takes up disk space.

Thank you that was an awesome description of what a URL is. You should be a teacher. I am not sure the picture is needed now though.

It says 44 on the web by them pumpkin has half inch headed bolt on the cover and the hubs measure 3 5/16" at the outter end.

So I assume this is a basic high pinion dana 44. Correct?

Since you guys are so smart maybe you could help me with a similar question. I bought a 1979 high pinion dana 44 that the guy said was out of a snow fighter but I cant find the BOM... is there another way to identify it besides the extra gussets on the inside?

Snow fighters only came with dana 60 fronts.
The same specs would apply to any dana 44 vs dana 60 front.

All Sno-Fighters were equipped with a 4500lb D60 front axle.

50's were never used in this era.

A 60 could of been ordered in a plain jane Custom model.

A real easy way to tell the difference between a 60 and a 44 for 78-79's is measure the hub, close to 3 1/2" is a 44, 4" is a 60.

What about HD 44's didnt they have close to 4" hubs?

So you guys are saying that no 79 f250 snow fighter ever with a dana 44?

IIRC the HD44 still used the smaller hub size.

Yes, no 44 in a Sno-Fighter.

The bigest part of the snow fighter package was the dana 60 front. As far as I know no snow fighter had a dana 44 stock. It took me a year to find my dana 60 front to replace my 44. I've only seen them on super cabs, snow fighters, and crew cabs.
