Hey guys! I'm usually over in the OBS forum, but I have a question about a '99-2000 auto to manual trans swap. I've done several OBS swaps, but never a SD. A friend called and said a guy he works with has a '99 and a 2000. I'm not sure which is the auto and which is the ZF6, or if the '99 is an early '99 or not, but he wants me to swap the auto truck to a ZF6. On the OBS trucks there are a few wiring mods that need to be done when doing this swap. Are there any wiring mods on the SDs, or is it a pretty straight forward swap, just swapping parts? Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

 

As far as wiring goes the only thing you should have to swap is the safety switch wiring that only allows the truck to start in park or neutral to the clutch safety switch on the manual.

 

Most swap the PCM too...

Seems like there's a wiring or computer phantom somewhere that causes a CEL. There were a few that chased this issue a few years ago, but don't remember the outcome.

I believe you also will have to cut and weld the floor pan since the ZF is a taller transmission.
