windshield seal questions

As I'm working my way aft with painting, I'm going to pull the windshield. Plus the old seal is cracked and breaking apart when I touch it. Any recommendations on sources for a seal? Mine is just black with no chrome trim. I see many vendor choices including some that say OEM.

Also, in reading through related posts, I see some have used sealer when installing and others don't. A recommendation here? Thanks.

For future reference, anything from Dennis Carpenter is going to be good quality.

Some seal some don't . about 50 /50 i believe . I have put the rear one in with out sealer and no leaks. I'v done the rear on a 56 ford car and a 64 falcon , no leaks. The 56 has been sitting out in the weather for 13 years since then , still no leaks. I have not done the front glass on a dent side.

Ford used no sealer when these windshields were installed and I never have. Haven't had one leak yet.

windshield seal questions

Thanks everybody for the feedback. Now I'm debating whether to tackle the install myself or have it done. Safelite and other local shops quoted me ~$225 to install a new seal AND a new windshield - pretty tempting with the lifetime guarantee. I'll just have to get over my aversion to having anybody work on my truck - especially with the new paint I'm putting on!

Can't tell if you have the trim inserts or not but if you do thats a fair price (they're a bitch).
If it's just a rubber reinstall should be about 180ish
