Thanks for the input. I find it hard to believe that the accessory belt would have enough traction to keep me from turning it over, but I'll go give it a go. Either way, I picked up a '90 f250 with a 460, yesterday.

You'd be amazed at the traction a serpentine belt has. I know for a fact that back on the old tbi Chevy trucks that if the alternator locking up would not only prevent the motor from cranking but would actually kill it if it happened at or near idle

It has happened to members here. One, with a V-10, swore his engine was seized, but it was the A/C compressor.

Pull the belt and crank the engine over. Just don't run it for long if it does start.

Swap

I have a 97 f250 hd xlt 5.8l runs like a champ has only 112 thousand but when I got it didn't know frame was shot but just got a 01 f350 with the 5.4 but motor was shot I'm taking motor and all out the 97 and putting it in the 01 modifying it of course (also have a 89 Capri with a 351w and man smoke tires through all 5 gears and brings it off the ground )but not going that far just overhaul but I'll let ya know how it goes I'll be back if I need some help.
been following for a few years just now joined it's great knowing there are still some smart guys left in this world
