5.4 to 5.8 (351W)?

I don't even run 351's in my derby cars. I would do a cummins swap or look for a Lower mileage used motor. You will be going back In terms of mpg and power. I've ran those motors harder than anyone probably will and compared to a 460 or a 5.4 they are both far better motors. If you are building a hunting truck then you can always just weld motor mounts in and weld in a cross member. I put 460's in GM cars all the time, we use 1 1/4 threaded rod and make motor mounts. If you have a donor truck it could be a fun swap.

Supercharge the 5.4 and drive with pride.
You mentioned an AOD? Not only on the wrong track there, you are on the wrong gauge railroad....
You are not alone in your quest. Tuner, gears seem to the first steps, then PI heads, and beyond:

IMO it's easier to research ways to make the 5.4 come alive than to rebuild your truck to accommodate an older powertrain. ymmv

I ran 351's in Mustangs on circle (dirt) tracks for years and never blew an engine or broke a rod. Turned consistently 62-6300 and won many races. They are a great engine but nowhere near as good as the 5.4 in developing power. If you're bound and determined to swap, go the V10 route as it's a much easier swap then the 5.8 route.

Nope. Oil is good. I'm completely perplexed. Went out to the junk yard today, to see bout that 6.0. They wanted to see it run, so I popped the hood, fired it, and it ran clean and smooth. Shut it off, went inside to work a deal, came back out and it wouldn't start. So we threw cables on it, cause it was just clicking like a dead battery. Well, once it had juice, it sounded like the started had plenty of power, but just wasn't turning, so grabbed a pipe wrench, threw it on the front pully, and it wouldn't budge.

Honestly, I really can't see a 5.4 just seizing up for no apparent reason, even at 275K miles. That's really not high mileage for a 5.4. We've got a whole fleet of them at my work, and 275K would be low miles in our fleet. Some of them have over 500K on them and still get heavily used and abused every day.
