Too bad Landyot stopped making Radius Rods. They work well.

To install something like what has been shown on this thread, can the axle be welded upon without disassembly? In other words, will the heat do damage to anything between the axle pads and the diff?

You'll be fine, however I believe it's generally a good idea to preheat the tubes a little bit for better penetration since they're cast.

Also taking the brake hard lines off would be a really smart idea, along with other miscellaneous items in the way. It'd be easier to set the correct angle with the axle installed and weight on wheels with the suspension at ride height as well.
