96 F150 Chasing codes.
I just registered today because after a lot of searching, this seems to be the the best one. I am working on a 96 F150 with a 5.0, auto, 4wd, and 150k. I have been searching this forum for ideas, and one post said to check the EGR tube to see if it was broken. I did. It was. I spent $165 at the dealer for a new one. I replaced it, but I still have trouble. Originally my codes were p0133, p0141, p0401, p0402, p1131, and p0171. After replacing the tube and clearing the codes I now have P1401, p0171, p1130, and p1131. Some posts say DPFE, some say MAF, some say vacuum leak, and there is talk about carbon build up. The MAF has been cleaned, the DPFE replaced, as well as the pcv valve. How do I clean the carbon? Do I disassemble anything? I would like to replace the hoses to the DPFE, but the Ford dealer said they were not available. What can I use as a replacement? Any vacuum sources that might be overlooked? I bought a Haynes manual, but I could not find the vacuum diagrams. Any help would be appreciated, and thank you in advance. Ken.

Code P1401 (indicates that Self-Test has detected DPFE SIG circuit input above the maximum.) leads me to believe you got a bad DPFE sensor or the connector is not fully seated.
The rest of the codes point to a lean condition on one side of the engine (Bank 1, should be the driver side). Do you have an exhaust manifold leak? These OBD-II vehicles are very sensitive to exhaust leaks as well as vacuum leaks.
The DPFE/EGR hoses are made from high temperature silicone. You can usually source bulk lengths at many good automotive part stores. I think they are 3/8 and 5/16 inch, but let me find some old posts before you go try to find some.

Thanks. did the test on the dpfe and it was bad. replaced it and erased the codes. drove the truck and the check engine light is back. i have codes p0141, p0133, and p1131. this says o2 bank one sensor one, and bank one sensor two. should i just replace the o2 sensors and hope for the best? what else should i look for? thanks for your help. ken.
