Something old, something new
Here's a picture of my '49 F-2 next to my son's '13 F-150:
I noticed something kind of interesting about the front fender of his '13:
I thought it was interesting how the newer truck had the same type of body seam and the swoop under the headlights in the front fenders as the Bonus Built. I have to wonder if it's a coincidence or did they do it to honor the first F series.

All I could see was what looks like a scratch on your F2 paint. But you have driven it across the country lately.
Yeah the new trucks are too big for my taste. I don't understand why Ford stopped the Ranger. The smaller pickups are great for people like me. I love my 4 door Frontier, I can haul the family as well as as much stuff as I ever need.

I too wonder why all pickups have gotten so big.It is almost impossible the get anything thing in or out over the bed sides, and if try and clime in over the tailgate you take your back and legs in the ,hold my beer and watch this mode. Why doesn't any one make a low 2 wheel drive, that's light weight and gets reasonable gas mileage ,for a fair price. I would love to buy a pick up without all the bells and such.Do I really need 6 speaker surround sound,GPS,power seats, windows, locks, and all the other gadgets. To go to the dump or Home Depot, Build a truck for 15-20 thousand and you would sell a bunch.

Those are pretty cool. Jay Leno had one restored and did a video on it.

When I turned 16 in 1971 the car that was "mine" was a 62 Corvair. I really liked it. It belonged to my sister but as she was away on a 1 year volunteer mission trip it was mine. When she returned she sold it to buy a new car and I had to drive my parents Oldsmobile until I could afford my own car.
A guy I worked concrete construction for had a rampside crewcab VW. It was pretty cool but could not carry a lot of wieght of course.

Eric/Doraville forwarded me an article a while back that explained how EPA mileage reg's assured that we will never see another compact pickup. It has to do with how they calculate EPA emissions and mileage, nothing to do with technical problems or lack of demand.
