miss/lag issue

Hello all, I have a 88 eddie b bronco with a 5.0, and I have a slight miss going down the road and now starts to take more cranking to start, so I replaced ignition coil, sparkplugs and wires, o2 sensor dist cap and rotor button and the starter, oh and the huge fuel filter on the frame, almost looked like there was another on motor, but is still acting up, what could be the cause? Would appreciate all input thx

Let the onboard computer tell you what is ailing it. Run KOEO and KOER diagnostics tests and let the Code you retrieve determine what direction you pursue the issue. This will save you throwing more parts and money at it without knowing whether you have resolved it.

also could try doing compression test, and see where the motor mechanically stands.... I've seen too many overheat one too many times and warp their heads, eventually developing head gasket leaks and such. But do start with Greystreak92's suggestion first, as there is less work involved. Good luck, and keep us updated!

Ok, I guess I will go to a shop this weekend and see what they can pull, but as far as I'm aware its never been overheated and the motor only has 110xxx miles, in my opinion I'm leaning towards the egr valve Because it only does it at low rpms, I smell it running rich and I'm getting really bad milage, will let yall know what I find out, thanks for input

Buy a Equus 3145 code reader or learn the paper clip method, both are easy and way cheaper than going to a shop.

I agree with Encho...and the codes can be looked up yourself in the parts store, in the haynes manuals section. (I sometimes use the parts store as a library :-))

Yeah, you can look them up... but just knowing what they mean doesn't always give you the best idea as to how to troubleshoot them or even which one (if you get multiple fault Codes from the tests) to troubleshoot first. One fault Code can trigger a half-dozen or more OTHER Codes that may only be there because the computer is trying to compensate for the problems caused by the one that is the real problem. I'm just pointing this out because it is quite frequent that dealing with one code will clear up multiple issues that are causing other codes to trigger.
