Wow! Wish I had that kind of money to throw down on it.
I watched about 3 minutes of the show last night. A guy wanted to buy his first car, a 69 Firebird. He had a $15k budget. They found it and bought it for $2k. They then showed it to him and said since it was in such rough shape it would cost $25k to fix up. He acted like he thought about it for a minute and then commented on how he loved that car and to go for it. I know they have to be scripted but are we stupid? They find the car and buy it without thinking about how much it will cost to fix up?

Between the 'budgets' on Counting Cars and the 15 second estimates accepted by the owners on American Restoration and the foolish belief that a pawn shop will pay a fair price, there apparently is some sort of stupid money disease running unchecked in Vegas. Makes sense, as the whole town was funded from people who are bad with numbers.

I was surprised at the quote, that seemed about 2X what they've charged for some more extensive builds. I didn't care for the paint job, mixing flames with scallops looked overdone and without focus. Kinda reminded me of some of the kids who built the original 3 in 1 model car kits, and put on ALL the decals. One or the other would have been better IMHO. Also would have made the buzzards larger so they filled the tailgate end panel, again looked like an undersized sticker.

Just caught that episode last night (DVR'd it). I thought $60K was ridicules when I heard the quote but if you think about it, the shop takes your truck, strips it clean and proceeds to replace the entire suspension, engine (and complete driveline), electrcial system, braking system, interior, body and glass, and has all the trim rechromed or replaced, you're really buying a custom built new car/truck. They have to pay all their workers and their overhead... plus make a few bucks. It didn't sound so expensive once they were done. Mind you, $60K is way more than I could spend on any vehicle but I see F250's that cost that much in supermarket parking lots everyday. They seemed thrilled to have it done and they got two jackets for "free"
The "Count" seems like kind of a tool to me but it's TV so I reckon they need to become television characters if they want to keep the cameras rolling.

ps. I agree, the paint job had too much going on.

It wasn't the total price quoted for that build, it was in comparison to other quotes on that show, I guess they weren't a young attractive girl, a kid or someone with a sob story. On my monitor the picture C&C posted looks much lower than the actual truck, They did not do any major body work. I guess the LS crate engine and tranny would retail for close to 1/2 that build cost.
