'71 Ford F600 -Front Diff
Hey all,
I have a front axle/diff out of a '71 Ford 600 which had the NAPCO 4x4 power pak. I have pulled the front axle for servicing as I have found it does not seem to work and I would like help with troubleshooting the problem.
The model is a Napco 38508 with manually lock hubs (with I think a 7.20 gear ratio). The T-Case engages and works- so that is out of the equation. With the front axle out and drive shafts removed, I can freely spin the input yoke on the differential.
I have turned the hubs to 'lock' but still get no resistance from the tires trying to spin as they should. Also, as I wheel the assembly around the yoke does not spin - as it should. However, one of the hubs manual lock seems to not be as engaging and does not spin freely as the other. I am not sure if this is just from sitting or internal problems.
So; what could be some probable causes for this and the appropriate methods of repair. I am also aware that parts are rare for these axles, but would like to make efforts to repair it myself or TRY to locate the right parts before scraping it & looking for something else.
Any input is as always; much appreciated.
Joe.
