Tach Install

Ive got a 1983 f-250 xlt with the 6.9 and I want to put a tach in it. I got the Injector pump housing adapter with the tach sensor off another motor, I dont know what year it is but it looks like it will fit. Does anyone know where i can find another tach sensor, and will I need to replace the gear or will the stock 83 one work? Also did they make tachs that fit in the dash of my year or will I have to get an aftermarket one?
Thanks

Ford had an optional tach for the instrument cluster on that generation, no idea if the wiring would be there if it didn't come with a tach originally. I would think the tach would be hard to come by (don't see many in the bullnose trucks). Good luck!

Finding a tachometer dash for your truck could be a problem. check out this thread for a possible alternative.

you would still need the housing with the tach sensor for this to work.

Ok, so I'm getting this feeling the factory tachs are a bit inaccurate, so I'm going to try to get an aftermarket one and mount on the steering column. Any ideas on what I should go with?
