Thanks, I think the engine was changed out at some point so the engine number is all I have to go off of.

For what it is worth....

I was told by a Ford Mechanic the first letter represents the decade, the next being the year. This casting sequence started in the 40's so C3 equals 1963.

I would not bet my 4x4 on this being correct.

I have the same question on another thread and numbers dummy is the man with answers. However he has no answered mine either as of yet.

I'll give it a try
C3AE indicates a 1963 full size engine

6015 has to do with the engine assembly
In 1963 I think the V8 was a 351 Windsor

There may also be a date code it was cast like " 3C7" meaning 1963 March(3) 7th

Numbers Dummy (Bill) will do much better

Wow it took me so long to type that Old broke Prospector answered it

I read in another posting that number represents the identification for the block only and you would have to measure the stroke to figure out the size of the engine.

C3AE indicates the block was cast in 1963. AFAIK, this is a 223 I-6, same block used in 1963/64 Galaxies and F100/350's.

262 I-6 available in 1963/64, but this is a truck engine only, not installed in cars, so the casting number prefix will have a T as the 3rd digit.

351W introduced in 1969 Ford/Merc Passenger Cars, first installed in 1975 Econolines, 1981 F150/350's & Bronco's.

Casting numbers found on engine blocks are foundry marks, cannot be decoded in most cases.

numberdummy

I knew the numberdummy would get to the bottom of that, Thanks for not making me look as bad as my answer.

Bill, I changed the starter the other day and got the numbers from underneath. They are from my 66 Flareside and the replaced engine.

The hidden numbers are EOAE D3C00 4B20.

I was told at the parts store' it appears to be a 302 from a 1980 bronco however you mentioned (without the numbers) it could be a Windsor. The Manifold is an Edlebrook so I'm still having trouble identifying the engine

Could you or someone confirm from this info what it actually is. Thanks in advance

Scott

Hey you guys are Great. The best part is that with all the knowlege you guys have, you still have the patience to answer green questions. that's good because Im sure Ill have more.
l dont want to butcher the 65 to make the 64 223 fit. i suppose the search is on for an engine and tranny again. The 64 still has a functional drive train so it may have to tear up the organ donor card.
Thanks, Dennis

Parts for the 1965/1966 motors are fairly readily available. For a 1965 F100, if it came with a 6 cylinder, then it was likely either a 240 or 300 cubic inch "big six".

Thanks that's what I'm in search of now and if it has a 3 speed trans bolted to it even better.
If anyone in Southern California has an engine and trans and willing to get rid of it let me know.

The engine code mentioned " C3" meaning 1963. Did the same letter number combo take place in the 1970's? Would it then change to a "D"? D8=1978?

Thanks

You cannot go by ID engineering & part number prefixes to ID the year of the parts or what vehicles the parts fit, because...

FoMoCo is infamous for replacing/updating 10's of 1000's of part numbers EVERY YEAR!
