took the "new old truck" out for it's virgin drive.
after 5 years, i finally got the 2000/2004 legal and on the road.
truck is a 2000 F-350 4X4 with 5.4 auto trans. originally a fully loaded truck, but after being in a garage fire the dash and wiring was damaged beyond repair.
but it only had 12,000 miles on it, so it was worth fixing.
it took 5 years to put together in spare time/ down time at the body shop.
got an 04 truck with a gazillion miles on it, but the cab and nose were still perfect except for paint, so they were transplanted on the 2000 frame.
next the flatbed rack dump body was removed from the rotted out 79 F-350 and fitted to the to the new frame. it is not functional rite now, i am still waiting for rear dump brackets before putting the hydraulics under it.
got the lights wired up this afternoon. led tail lights, and regular trucklight body lights for now. i will swap the markers over to led later.
took it for a ride.
runs good, except for a sticking rear caliper, and slightly warped rotor.
still have to put the custom interior in it, but that is another days work too.
also for another day is to remove the bumper and mount the lisence plate with a light, and make some kind of rear crash bar to keep cars from kissing my rear differential.
overall, i am happy with the way it turned out so far.
total investment so far is only $3600

total invested with truck purchase, and 2 parts trucks.
the total price will go down too after the remains of the 79 and 04 parts trucks are sold.
interior is going to get cloth bucket seats, cloth headliner, rubber floor mat, 04 dash, CD stereo, tinted sliding rear window, manual windows and door locks for the time being.
i am looking for a dually 8X200 pickup rear to do a dually conversion on it.
plans for it are use as a hauler truck so i don't tear up the 02 diesel. once done it is also getting a meyers C8.5 plow so my helper can make some money if it ever snows again .

me too!! took it out for a short spin this morning.
the brakes are a little better, but it definitely needs the right rear caliper replaced.
there is still a few bugs in the electrical. it has a bad miss in neutral and park, but runs perfect once in gear.
sitting at a traffic light a few blocks from the house, and a landscaper offered me $7500 as it sits.
