And under boost...air only..the head port locations and shapes are very odd.i have my extra set back from cleaning and have been studying them ironically enough.
Yeah isn't boost how gassers get past air restrictions? The turbo is keeping positive pressure on the intake. I'm sure someone has milled a set. Sounds cool, but crazy expensive and not worth it. Maybe shave a head for compression boost.

I see this as a problem because you would need twice as many lopes on the cam shaft. And more ports in the block for push rods. Unless there was some sort of weird way to have 1 pushrod push on 2 rocker arms, and then you need stronger push rods. I think this is a cool idea and would love to hear the sound of a 32 valve 7.3, but then again thats what a 6.0 is.
There are shops that port these heads, but an actual new casting for higher performance... No, there aren't any. It would be cool if there was and there would be a benefit. We see pretty good performance improments through porting.

You would use "bridges" to make one rocker arm push down on two valves at a time. Pretty simple. Lots of engines out there like that... One of which is the 24v Cummins.
I figured some gain could be had from porting. I bet with computer programs anymore they could pop out a pretty good set of heads for a 7.3, but probably cost you 30k! haha. There just wouldn't be near enough demand for them imo.

Probably not enough demand, at least until the common rail and mechanical injection gets bigger on these engines and even then I'm not sure we'll see it happen. The cummins guys have an aftermarket cast iron head and IIRC that head goes for around $1500 bare. Not terrible. If there was a set of heads available for that price for the 7.3, I would add them to my build if they had proven to outflow a set of highly ported stockers.
Is there a lot of room for porting in our heads? How much material can you remove?
I don't know any specifics on how much room there is before hitting water jackets or how they can modify for larger valves, but the valves are already big enough that they are right up against the cylinder walls as it is in factory form. I've heard of some modifying and being able to run larger valves before.
The ports can take a good bit of porting, but the exhaust side doesn't really need much. Just a good clean up. The intake needs a lot of work..
