1997 Explored Timing Cover Reseal - Replace Timing Chain?
Long time no post for me but was hoping to get some opinions -
I need to re-seal the front timing cover on a 1997 Explorer 4.0
Any suggestions on sealing the area where the timing cover and oil pan meet?
If I remember correctly in the past I had good luck just RTV'ing the cover back on to everything it makes contact with
Any other suggestions?
Also, this engine has approximately 125K on it. What is a general rule for timing chain life on these engines?
Thanks for any input

Timing chain life:
OHV--life of the engine, they have a hydraulic tensioner and are "trouble free", as much as anything can be.
SOHC--50,000 to 300,000. The tensioners are trouble, and a failure clinks the valves and pistons, resulting in a ruined engine.
I can get you more info depending on what you have.
