adding keyless entry question

Is there a way to add it on our trucks?
I already have power locks in my 92 f250 but I would like a keyfob to control them like the newer trucks have. Is this a mater of ordering and programing a keyfob, or adding a module to allow this?

thanks

To have Factory Ford keyless entry, I believe it is a matter of swapping the entire trucks wiring harness to one with keyless entry. However I think an aftermarket system can be wired into your truck to work.

An aftermarket alarm can be added that replaces the door lock "poppers" for new ones and a control module that opens and closes them via remote but still keeps your switches.

I am trying to reinstall a Valet 712T keyless entry modular. This system was working prior to me refurbishing my cab.
I have a 1989 F250 XLT Lariat which had power locks and windows from the factory. I simply had the aftermarket keyless installed by a professional some 4 years ago. All worked fine until...

My issue is that I have now gotten the unit hooked up so that the interior switches work as they should and the "fob" works to unlock the doors but I can not seem to figure out why the "fob" lock function will not work.

I have reversed the wires and all that does is reverse the lock/unlock function. I was wondering if anyone might have some guidance for this poor sap.
Thanks in advance,
Critter

When the keyless entry was installed two wires were cut in half in the factory
wire harness. A Pink/Light Green wire for a 88 is the Lock function. (For a 89 this wire could be for Unlock)

The other wire cut in half for a 88 is a Black/Orange wire. That is the Unlock wire. (For a 89 this wire
could be for Lock).

Three wires are used for the Lock function from the Keyless control module.

Plug H1 is a 12 pin connector at the Keyless entry control module.

H1 Pin 5 Green/Black wire connects to the cut Pink/Light Green wire
that goes towards the Passenger side power door lock switch.

H1 Pin 6 White/Black wire connects to the cut Pink/Light Green wire
that goes to towards the Driver side power door lock switch.

H1 Pin 7 Violet/Black wire should be connected to any 12 volts that is hot all the time.

For the Unlock

H1 Pin 8 Blue/Black wire should be connected to the cut Black/Orange wire
that goes towards the Passenger side power door lock switch.

H1 Pin 9 Violet wire should be connected to the cut Black/Orange wire
that goes towards the Driver side power door lock switch.

H1 Pin 17 Brown/Black wire should be connected to any 12 volts that is hot
all the time.

F150XLT,
What can I say that is the clearest explanation I could imagine. Nicely done Thanks so much I will try this tomorrow and post my results. Once again thanks for taking the time to think and write that out, very helpful.

OK I have wired up as F150XLT has suggested. Unfortunately that did not work. With this wiring setup, the door switches click but the locks themselves do not lock or unlock. The "FOB" also initiates the same situation, keyless unit clicks and actuators click but no lock or unlock movement. Also the system seems to want to work all by itself as the door actuators keep clicking in both doors without using the door switches or the remote.

I have double checked to make sure I have the wiring as suggested by F150XLT and it is. I know this system works because it was in the truck for the past five years, no problems.
This is my fault for no paying closer attention to the way it was wired.

Does anyone have any thoughts or directions for me to try next?
Thanks,
Critter

That's why the Guys at Best Buy get paid the big dollars.

Here's the schematic for a 88 The 89 uses the same wiring.

Best way to find out what's going on is to remove the following wires
from the keyless entry control module that are going to the power
door lock circuit.

Green/Black
White/Black

Blue/Black
Brown/Black

Reconnect the two cut wires. Pink/Light Green and Black/Orange.

Verify the circuit works using the door lock and unlock switches.

I hope you are disconnecting the negative battery terminal while you're
doing the rewiring.
