1951 F-1 clutch linkage for 4 speed swap
I'm going to be working on swapping 4 speed np-435 transmission into my 51 f1 this weekend mounted to a 289. I've seen a few posts saying only problem is the mount. I've also read one post saying the clutch linkage is different and has to be converted? Is this true? If so how do I convert it????
Any help is appreciated!!!!!

We would have to know a lot more to help. What bellhousing are you using, I'd assume a 289/302 style? If so, what clutch linkage are you using now? Or is the 289 adapted to the stock F-1 trans now. using the stock F-1 clutch arrangement?
Is your crossmember already cut for a longer trans? As far as I know, the NP435 is too long to fit ahead of the crossmember, but if the engine was installed far enough forward, it might clear with some minor cutting. Otherwise, the whole center of the crossmember has to be cut out, just like for a T5 install.

I'm in the process of putting together this set up. I just removed the flathead and original 3 on the floor transmission and I still have the clutch linkage that was with the original set up. I have a 289 with 289/302 bell housing and clutchfork.
My question was what to expect I'll be doing once the motor and trans are mounted in place in the terms of clutch linkage? Can I make it work with the stock components I have? Or do I need to piece together something more?

The 302 uses a completely different arrangement for the clutch. What you need is something more like the '53-'56 uses, look at this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...for-ideas.html
It sure won't be easy...
Can you post a picture of your old transmission?

NP 435/302 combination first installed in F100's in 1969.
TWO different 289 engine blocks. One has 5 bell housing bolt holes (before 8/23/1964), t'other has 6 that is shared with 302 that was introduced Spring 1968.
Before 8/23/1964 289 block uses a different timing cover and water pump than from 8/23/1964 that is also same as 302.
