Me being me I hadn't gotten around to starting a thread with the question "What is Bonus Built?" since I had seen that in many posts. Nor have I taken the time to search myself. I learned a great deal from those. Thanks.

One of the questions I do have - When they mentioned the space for the available big person, Have we as evolved that much that we now have so many folks here that have difficulty fitting behind the steering wheel?

"Bonus Built" is the name given to the '48-52 trucks. They were the first new design after the war and Ford spent a million dollars designing the cab. The new truck for '48 had a lot of new "Bonuses" to entice new buyers, which there were many of after the war because of the halt of production of domestic vehicle for the war effort.

Speak for yourself Dick. You've met me in person, you and the others, (No need to comment Gary) know I'm no little wimpy guy. I'm able to slip and in and out of my Million Dollar cab very easily. Occasionally my steering wheel does seem to absorb an excess amount of moisture and swells but I still feel pretty comfortable in the cab. Heck, I drove old girl 1600 mile to and from KY without a problem. Now the suspension, that's another story. That buckboard suspension can get a little old after a few hundred miles.

I don't know, I'm not old enough to remember that stuff. I'm old though, turned 50 last December.

Funny. My brother, the Dodge Power Wagon restorer, refers to towing with his 2012 F450 tow vehicle as driving in his living room.
I gotta get my cell phone hooked up to one of my vacuum tube amps for that authentically "restorated" sound!

After taking Chris's Model AA around the "section" at Flatlander Truckfest" my F-2's cab seems like a living room.

LIKE A BOLT OUT OF THE BLUE...

Thanks for sharing Bob. I have never heard those! A must for any Bonus Built collector.

I think in those days a 200 pounder would have been a pretty big guy. You are correct about the cab in the Model AA... much less room. I drive a 27 Model T Touring car once in awhile with a "fat man" steering wheel (aftermarket accessory) that you can unlock and tilt to help slide into the drivers seat.
