I have an '87 E-350 6.9 diesel van chassis on my bus and I'm getting loud bangs and pops at low speed going over bumps, turning etc… Just had the whole front end re-built within the year, all bushings, joints, even steering gear, everything looks tight and she handles like new. I'm noticing that the lower spring retainer seats have what looks like the remains of a rubber pad squeezing out of the seat. The louder driver side has allmost no rubber present. Went to the dealer and there is no separate rubber part. Does anyone here know if the lower retainer includes this rubber? Tough part to find, called a few dealers and no one seems to remember. Also, any problems driving it around this way for a while? Sounds like she's going to crack in half sometimes. I hosed it with Triflow to quiet it, and it just seemed to loosen it up to more, including the other side that was quiet. Any help appreciated, taking a group out this weekend and want to be sure she's safe.
