I can get free springs but are they right?
A local guy is parting out 04 F250 6.0L truck. After he pulls the axles he said I can have his springs and bumper before they scrap the truck. I see a lot of talk about springs so I figured I'd ask. Mine are shot! It's driving me crazy and I'm wanting to put 35's under the truck. Will these springs work to give me the clearance? What should I look for? I'm about to pull the trigger on a complete lift kit but if I can get there in a cheaper way it would be nice.

35's? You need a 4 inch lift. A 4 inch lift on a base Excursion is equivalent to a 2 1/5 inch lift on a 1999-2004 Super Duty.
Springs from a Super Duty are not going to do it without extensive modification.
If you are not prepared to spend the time and the extra dollars to add a front spring pack and track bar, you might as well get the Procomp springs and a Zone adjustable trackbar. It will cost about $700, but it is a really easy way to do it without hassle and keep a good ride. It's cheaper than a equivalent lift kit, too.
You replace the springs with
Front: Procomp 22210 $128.99 each

rear: Procomp 22415 $138.99 each

Zone Offroad Trackbar Best price Amazon $99.95
You will need new Ubolts and nuts, too. About $80.
Get the Husky spring brand from Rockauto. They are really nice U-Bolts and come with deep nuts.
You may very well need new longer shocks along with it.
Here is a thread of how another guy did it.

Then there is the Zone Offroad 4" lift kit for the Excursion. It uses a front spring pack, adjustable trackbar, and Blocks in the back.
I includes new shocks and U-bolts.
The price is good at about $550 without options. (spring for the extra 21 bucks and get the Nitro shocks, and get shock boots if you want them.)
4" System F11

Good advice from Housedad to get you up enough for 35"s, but I think Tylus was speed reading and got the donor truck's year and motor swapped around, if the donor truck is an '04 then all the springs will fit. (leaves up front in '04 as opposed to coils on an '06) Of course you still need to check the door jamb to see what spring codes they are and consider the mileage and how the donor sits on them to determine how tired they are. My springs came off a Super Duty and with a little mod work and swapping in extra leaves I got 4"(+) all around, now I'm OK with the very truck like ride I have but others may find it to be too firm.
Also if the trans cooler is still available from that 6.0L donor truck I'd grab it!

The doner truck has 230k miles so his springs might be more tired than mine. I think I'm just going to go through my distributor. I can get Fabtech, ProComp, Revtek and skyjacker kits at cost. I'm leaning towards the Pro Comp K4018B 6" with the ES9000 shocks for $785. For almost $200 more I can get the ProComp K4018BMX kit that gives you the MX6 shocks. All I've ever had on my truck are Ranchos. Are the MX6 worth the jump in price? It then jumps another $300 for the fox reservoir shocks. These kit seems to give me all thats needed.

I'm running brand new LT285/65R16 E Rated nitto Terra grapplers on the oem 16 inch wheels now. I'm having some 17 Helo Maxx 8 wheels powder coated metallic burgundy right now. I'm still undecided what tire I'm going to go with. The ProComp kit lists that it will clear a 36". Probably the larger Terra Grappler again since I get them at cost unless someone recommends a better suited tire that's good balance for everyday driving and the weekend off roading for fishing and hunting. I can get any tire I want at a discount. Its just the grapplers I see all the time on the trucks I work on.
