Hey all, I'm new to the forum, just decided that I want to kind of create a journal of my 64 f100 build! It's a 2wd long bed. originally had a 223 with 4 on the floor. Swapped in a 390FE and C6 out of a 67 thunderbird. The engine runs amazing! only replaced the oil pan gasket so far, otherwise it's untouched internally. My dad managed to find an autolite 4100 that he traded an old spreadbore holley for.

Definitely a work in progress, but at least it's driveable. Next up is ditching the old dana 44 in favor of a 9" rear end.

 

It has a Dana 44 because the original purchaser wanted Limited Slip. 9" with Limited Slip was not available until mid-year 1968 in F100's.

What year is the Model A or is it a T? Hard to tell from this view.

 

The dana is making quite a bit of noise, and I just don't trust it to hold up to 427 lb/ft of torque and that's my dads '29 model A sitting in there.

I think my boys like the truck more than I do! I can't get my 2 year old to let go of the steering wheel and every time I start it up my 4 year old jumps in and wants to go for a ride.

 

My grands are 3 & 5, but can't ride in my truck. No seat belts and no kiddy seats.

video of the truck running. the exhaust is very temporary (two old glasspacks held up by wire). When I get some time and money I'm going to run a 2.5" X-pipe into thrush glasspacks and exit in front of the rear wheels.

 

Nice carb and air cleaner.

 

yeah, the rest of it kinda looks like crap right now, but it sure does run well! cleaned up the carb while rebuilding it, and the entire air cleaner assembly was only $35 from jegs. hell of a deal, if you ask me.

 

I acquired a 2.5" stainless x-pipe that should work on the truck. yay for freebies!

 

finally found a rear end for the truck, and what a find it is (thanks dad!). 9" rear with 3.50s, limited slip, and 31 spline axles!!!

It's been a while since I've posted anything....I finally got the truck home so I can work on it more than once a year. I ditched the autolite in favor of an edelbrock. The 4100 was the smaller 1.08 version and just wasn't enough carb to feed the 390 in higher RPMs. I also scored a set of Borla S-type mufflers for free! awesomesauce! Other than that, not much else to report. Big things to come soon....as soon as I can afford them ;-)

 

Oh, does anyone know which year Toyota power steering boxes work best with the pre-twin I beam f100s? the 650lb engine makes steering a huge chore.
