You do not under any circumstances want the truck style dual throttlebody Edelbrock intake if you plan to rev this motor beyond 3500rpm, you want the relatively short runner single throttlebody style.

Why is this? If i have twin stock 50s then why would i downsize to single 70? Isnt that defeating the purpose?

The stock twin 52mm TB and an aftermarket 70mm single flow about the same amount of air which is enough to feed 350hp.. so neither is a downgrade or a restriction. But besides that it's not the throttlebody that's the big issue it's the intake.. you do not want that Edelbrock truck intake because those super long runners are a bottleneck..

The version you want looks like this...
or this...

OK.. your truck is MAF already so you're a little ahead of the game. With better heads, intake and cam in the motor it will move more air and need more fuel so it will most likely need a larger MAF meter and injectors. There are 2 ways to go about this, one way works OK and is cheaper and the other way works better but is more expensive.

Option 1) buy 24lb injectors and a "calibrated" MAF meter. This combo attempts to trick the computer into thinking it's still using the stock components and it works OK but will most likely result in a rough rich idle so plan on passing any emissions tests with it.

Option 2) You buy a larger MAF meter and 24lb injectors, and tell the computer the specs for those parts with a tuner. With this method the computer has accurate numbers to work with so it doesn't spend much of it's time correcting for injectors that flow more than it thinks they do so overall the motor runs better.

Tuber software that works with the Moates Quarterhorse is called Binary Editor and it's found here...Binary Editor

So Ask for short runner edelbrock performer and buy single 70-75 throttlebody and ill be good? Since you said i need to delete egr do i order the egr intake or non. I have glanced at the website i believe it gave those two options. Are there parts to buy for an egr delete?

Ok this is good i did see the binary editor and thats what i thought i needed but had to have a second opinion. I am going to get 24lb injectors and im going to try and find a bigger maf meter, see some prices and decide what i need to do.

Ok guys bringing this thread back for a minute. I bought a few parts to get me started actually almost all of them I'm just lacking headers, cam, and stall converter. I ordered comp high energy 1.6 rockers and the comp cams all said they are designed to work with 1.7 roller rockers(i do not want to run 1.7's) on summit racing website. So does this mean they do not work with 1.6's or its just designed to work with all of them? I took them to a machine shop also. I'm going to pull the motor as soon as I recover from some injuries so i will start updating this thread and take some pictures. Thanks for any help have a great day.

What Comp Cams are you looking at that say they "have" to have 1.7" rockers... or is that a recommendation? Some cam profiles and head combos "will" require the additional opening, to allow for all kinda physical phenomenon to occur that is beyond my high school science knowledge... Stuff like extra dwell, or opening time, or whatever you call it. This is sometimes used to actually lower compression "bleed-off" if you need to lower it but can not do it without sacrificing something in your components set-up.

I am sure more edumacated folks than me can chime in why you "have" to have 1.7" sometimes. I know the factory 302C/351C used 1.73" rockers.

You do not want a high stall converter. You do want an external trans oil cooler.

Ignore all mention of 1.7 rockers being required.. it's simply not true.

When they said they're designed to work with 1.7 rockers, it means just that. It does not mean you cannot run them with 1.6's. The cam doesn't know what ratio the rockers used above them are. The only area of concern would be piston to valve contact, 1.7's put the max lift at the valve .030 closer to the piston, in some cases that could be enough difference to cause concern.

Okay thanks. I emailed comp and they said the same thing I ordered comp high energy roller rockers and comp 35-351-8 cam. I have to wait a week or so for rocker arms though because the rocker arms i first ordered I got wrong and have to exchange. Hopefully I get this project rollin within the next few weeks.
