Has anyone successfully disassembled the door latch mechanism for a 52 Ford F1 for cleaning purposes? I'm just curious if it can be done. Looking at cleaning mine up after some sand got into it from sandblasting the truck.

I have. Just carefully bend the tabs in the back. Be prepared for them to break off so you'll need to tack weld them back in place. It's easy to do.

 

if you take it apart check it out for worn contact points. there are some good threads of fte on how to rehab them. we added some weld back to a couple places, reground them and it made my door work better and helped with the sag on the handle.
