4.10 vs 3.73 vs 3.55

Hello all I have an 06 4x4 crew v-10 with 4.10 my 03 had 3.73. Do you think mpg would go up or down with 3.73 or maybe 3.55's . I don't do any heavy towing as that won't be an issue.

IMO for the $2000+ cost of changing gears and minimal benefit, put that $ toward gasoline. Your mpg won't change at all (best case) and resale value could even go down.

Fuel mileage could improve with the 3.73's, depending on your driving style and speeds. If driven at a steady speed on flatland roads and with a light foot I expect to see maybe 5-7% improvement, but if in hilly country and with a heavy foot I doubt you would see much difference.

More info for ya, but I went the other way.
On my EX I started out with 3.73s and stepped up to 4.88s, my solo mileage has dropped about 1 to 1.5 MPG but my towing mileage has gone up by 2 MPG. My EX sees more miles towing than solo so it was a good swap for me. I don't think that the little bump in mileage that you may see would be worth the high cost of the gear change. You could possibly do just as we'll by adjusting the nut behind the wheel . Drop a few MPH on the highway, coast farther into stop signs and lights and go just a bit easier on acceleration and try to let it shift into OD sooner.

You have the best gears in there right now IMO. I've had 4.30's and 4.10's. The 4.10's are a good comprimise.

Adj. the nut behind the wheel would not be fun. My wife thinks I drive like a old man now.....(comes from years of driving semi).....but she's all gas until 5 feet shy of stop sign. Over all happy with truck just was wondering. I know the motors are not equal from my 03 to the 06, but I really would hate to change the gearing and sacrifice the pick up this one has because it would leave the 03 on the line thinking what just happed. Thanks to all.
