The Benefits of Working at Night

The Benefits of Working at Night
* When you get off in the morning, everyone else is apparently working for YOU!
* Regardless if you are going TO or FROM work - all of the traffic is going the other way
* Cops at night are looking for real bad guys, not you
* When you go on break, it is calm and peaceful outside
* The Boss can hardly accuse you of gaining a "MOON-TAN" or a "STAR BURN" when you should have been inside working
* Stray dogs REALLY REALLY need help, if you have one come around the shop
* When your organization does something truly amazing - you have all the time in the world to watch it on TV

I work at different hours and what's most appealing is two things........
There's a calm, peaceful easy feeling in the air--no one really in a rush or all spazed out about most things----especially traffic to or from the job........
And its somewhat odd but highly interesting seeing others also at work, how so much is done through the night we sometimes never even think about.

Reminds me of the motto of USS John C. Stennis:
"LOOK AHEAD!"
True, isn't it?
What did you expect from a chick like that?
I actually knew a guy who told Ladies in every port that his name was: "BOND, JAMES BOND..."
It supposed that everyone else was stupid
Believe it or not - it worked
(as far as he knew)
Seems to me the last time we left the Phillipines he was bitchin about a prostitute stealing his expensive watch...
~As I recall, he was busted for drug use.....
I don't believe in fantasies.
I believe we make our own road, and the best way is to be truthful.
In particular - to ourselves
(Now there's a Sailor story for ya...)
Lesson learned: If you know you are going to be ashamed of it - don't.
BUT ANYWAY -

yeah, they tried that on my job but wouldn't allow us to clock in and get paid overtime,or paid at all for the meeting,so I got to be the bad guy by telling them if they wanted me to be in the meetings they could have them on my shift!! guess what? now the meetings for 3rd shift are during third shift hours!!

Back when I first started working swings, third shift (11p - 7a) was always my favorite of the three. Brass wasn't around, traffic was lighter the further you got into the shift, and it was nice to go home and sleep with no one there to bother me. As time wore on and I got 20+ years of swings under my belt, I found it increasingly difficult to sleep during the day, and even at night when I was on dayshift.
Our three shift swing turned to a two shifter when we changed form 8 hour shifts to 12s. Now after being on straight days for the past two years, I love having a normal schedule, finally. I'm on call every fourth week and sometimes get called out in the middle of the night. And with that come many memories of why I liked nightshift so well, when I liked it.

Back when I was working security at a potato processing/dehydration plant, I preferred to work graveyards and loved it. No people to bug me and, most importantly, no sunlight - if I spend more than maybe about 10-minutes in direct sunlight, I burst into flame - I hate the sun - it's been trying to kill me for years...

I work day shift, but our hours are such that traffic isn't really an issue.....and believe you me, traffic in Charlotte IS an issue! I start at 0600, so I'm driving to work a little after 0500........and leaving work about 1430. So I beat both rush hours. Beautiful.
X2 BIGKEN.......Whether it's the odd hours or worse diets or something on night shift, it IS worse for your health.
