Neighbor works with a guy that has the above 1/2 ton. It intermittently knocks terribly, at all rpms, he has resorted to just driving it. The last time he drove it about 40 miles and the noise was the whole time, ALSO it burned 1/2 tank of gas in 40 miles. I'll say again, not mine, never looked at it, just picking enthusiasts brains for possible causes. He took it to the dealer and they wanted to put a crate motor in it for $8500 dollars!!!! Anyway, guys that do this for a hobby know more about mechanical parts of these trucks than the scanners do. You guys have any ideas? I know about the plagues of the cam phasers, does this fit that?

 

He needs a new engine due to lack of oil getting to the upper end. Big problem in the line. You can get en engine at a reputable shop for about $4800 with same guarantee. I had Ford put in a rebuilt by Ford engine $5700.
They say it has the problem fixed in the re-manufactured heads that caused the problem.
