A review of our enemy.
Found this on Youtube today.
I was kind of shocked to see the new 5.3L's acceleration was as slow as it was. It makes only 5hp less than the 5.0L Ford and only a couple lb/ft more torque and yet it takes almost 9 seconds to do 0-60mph, the Ford 5.0L which is extremely comparable on paper regularly runs low 7's in same acceleration category. So what gives?

I don't have anything against GM/Chevy/ GMC's really. I had an '08 2500 HD with a 6.0L & 3.73 rear-end. The 6.0L was stout and never gave me any grief other than mostly single digit fuel economy I liked the cohesive, yet strictly business dash layout and the way the truck drove.
Truthfully, while that '08 2500 HD I had did have it's fair share of dealership trips early in it's life, it wasn't any more or less than my 2011 F-150 has seen. I give both brands a C+ in that regard.
With that said, this new Silverado is U G L Y! too much chrome, too much cheesy grille, too busy looking in the front end, and looks too low with all that airdam in the front fascia. The GMC version is slightly easier on the eyes, but still not pretty.
If you guys think this is bad, you should see what Toyota has done to the 2014 Tundra (Where's that throw-up icon at)

The host is an idiot.
The front end looks to me like a throw back to the early / mid 70's but in a modern way. All of GM's "new" truck engines are direct injected for 2014, that's why the 5.3L now carries similar numbers to the 5.0L.
The host mentioned an 11000 lb pound tow rating for the 5.3L, no reason why the 5.0L isn't rated for that, it'll certainly do it.
Anyway, a bologna sandwich is still a bologna sandwich no matter how you cut it.

Here's what I get from it...Chevy is trying REALLY hard to dethrone the Ford F150. They integrated a lot of the features Ford has shown and talked about and I find it commical that they also call it the EcoTech motor. (sounds amazingly like the Ecoboost huh?) The lights in the bed of the truck and also the integrated tailgate steps with grab handle. (funny how after making a video of Howie Long joking about Ford making a MAN STEP that they made a version of their own built in to the truck.)
All that being said...I do like the ability to use less cylinders when not needed. I really think all manufacturers should try to incorporate these same features in all trucks. Let's face it...Chevy knows they have to do something severe to steal sales away from Ford. Just looking at the dash it really looks like they made the bigger ***** just like Ford has already done.
There will still be a lot of brand loyal people buying their trucks...I personally want to buy what I feel is the best truck out there right now...and for me that is the Ford. I am not a brand loyal person...I own a Toyota (several in fact) an Infiniti, a Honda (motorcycle...lol)
It is great to see the manufacturers battle it out because in the end we all benefit from all the new great feeatures!

Actually, Ecotech was out for years before Ecoboost came out. Ecotech is in its 3rd generation which is what those motors are. My old sky redline had an ecotech 4-banger that was throwing down 290hp and 300 lbft of torque out of a boosted 4-cylinder motor. It's just that Ecoboost is a more catchy name (congrats to ford's marketers on that moniker). I'm the same as Rob though, I like to buy what's best in the market at that time. Hence why I have a blue oval vehicle. When it comes to trucks, it almost always seems like Ford has the best packages for what I look for. Dodge has had potential to lure me away a few times though... (stupid Cummins ISB engine!).
