6.2L Engine Breaking-In.....Towing?

Hey Guys,

Just bought a 2013 F250 Lariat CC SB 4x4 3.73. Only has 250 miles on it today. Trying to adhere to the manual suggestion of the breaking-in procedure, but it also states no towing for 1000 miles. We got camping reservations this weekend and the wife says we are going. Hoping to have 500 miles on it by Friday, but im wondering if it will do it harm by towing so soon.

Our camper weighs aprox 7500lbs to 8000lbs, and its only about 30 miles away.

Whats your thoughts, experiances?

Thanks, Chris

I was in your same boat 2 years ago. Just bought a new 2011 F250 and we had a camping trip planned the same distance you are going, I kept driving around to put miles on the truck and ended up getting only 600 miles on it. Called the dealer and told them my problem and they said it would be alright. Our camper then only weighed 6500lbs. Now 20,000 miles later no problems what so ever. How that helps!

yep, took my Travel Trailer, 5600 lbs, on its first trip with 500 miles on the truck. Just take it easy, I didn't go over 60 mph and varied the speed. I would be more worried if you had a 12,000 lb trailer going up the mountains.

Also, do you think people who buy these work trucks for commercial use wait ?

Honestly, no I don't think they do. Nor do I think the farmers/ranchers in this state even think about an engine break-in. They usually beat on the trucks then trade in for a new one every couple of years or so. That's why I wanted to buy new.

Also when I think about it if its so important, why didn't my dealer/ salesman inform me about the required break-in.

The breaking in period is more for the axle gears than the engine. The engine should be broken in by 5000 miles. As was said before, vary your speed and take it easy.

30 miles?

I wouldn't worry about it.
