4.0L OHV V6 in F150 - I think I know the answer

So I just had a crazy and probably terrible idea.

I bought a complete running 90 F150 4x4 SCSB as donor to swap a 5.8L into my 91 Explorer. I was just planning on parting and scrapping whatever was left.

For the crazy part, there's nothing wrong with the Explorer's 4.0L/5spd. I could drop it in the F150 fairly easily I suppose. I just wonder if I could sell it for anything afterward. Obviously it will be gutless and not much good for towing again. I'm estimating I'll get about $500-700 in parts and scrap so I'd think I'd have to get at least $1000 for the F150 to make the hassle worth it. Probably not going to see that much.

Somebody confirm this is an awful idea.

I guess it would work.....you might have to do some 'under the hood' modifications. I wouldn't try to put a load on it though. And besides, the 4.0 and 5.0 on a 2wd, get very close gas mileage....so don't try to sell it as a gas saver

I'd lean towards it not being worth the hassle to put in the 4.0. All depends on the condition of the truck, and thus it's value in parts vs running.

I'd think that 4.0/5sp combo would have some good value to someone, so. Depending on time vs money vs condition of the truck, I'd lean towards keeping an eye out for a source of a more appropriate engine to toss in it that will jump it's value up. I'll have a spare 460/C6 in a little while that I'll make ya a deal on. That would be cool and have good resale value.

That would be a gutless wonder. I'd just look for an Explorer or Ranger guy that needs a drivetrain, and just sell the truck as a roller.
