Got the transmission pan gasket, filter, and some Indian Head today for when I replace all of the tranny fluid. Also got 8 quarts of "type F" transmission fluid because that was all the place had, so I checked 2 other places that didn't have any either. Guess I just have to wait until they get another shipment in to get the other 6 quarts...

Also got my chrome valve covers in today from Summit for the engine I'm swapping in! They look good!

Cool. Make any more progress on the new engine or not, and got any pictures of those chrome valve covers?

Got a little more paint on it, but didn't get to spend much time at all on it today. Will hopefully get the chrome valve covers on soon and get some pics uploaded!

Got everything loaded up tonight to take to where I'll be doing the engine swap at the end of the month. Here's a little peek of the engine mostly painted up now. Still haven't put the chrome valve covers on it yet. The toolbox there is also full of stuff for the swap.

Can't wait to see the finished product!

So, now with running an older carburated engine, did you/will you get rid of all the computer stuff, or do you have to keep anything for the truck to still run right?

How is the engine oil filter arranged in your truck? Does it have a remote filter setup? The filter hits the crossmember when you put a 429/460 engine in a truck that came with a 302/351. Changing to the 7.3 diesel/7.5 gas crossmember is a major deal since it is welded and riveted into the frame.

It's just cut to allow for the oil filter to have enough room. Someone else did it, not me.

Yep, pretty much all of the computer stuff and wiring are gone. No need for any wiring but ignition to the engine. Higher pressure fuel system parts are gone too.

Thanks for sending me the link. After looking at your thread you convinced me to swap it haha. Nice truck Im subscribed cant wait to see the new motor go in. Read about fitment issues on the crossmember, pretty straight forward to cut out clearance?

Sure thing. I can't wait to get the engine in there, haha.

When I get my current engine yanked out, I'll take a picture specifically of that and post it up for you to see. But yeah, it's not difficult.

Starting pulling stuff apart this afternoon. Got the fan shroud, radiator, transmission cooler, fan, starter, and one header off. Will be working on it more over the weekend. Hope to have some pictures up soon!

Worked a little bit more on my truck today. Got the other header out, got the engine mounts loose, got the vacuum lines off, and got the few electrical bits disconnected.

Will take the hood off of the truck and unbolt the engine from the trans tomorrow. Will either yank the engine out tomorrow afternoon or Monday.

Now everything is ready for the engine to be pulled. Unbolted everything, took the hood off, took the carb off, and tied up wiring and such so that it's out of the way. Was hoping to pull the engine this afternoon, but a thunderstorm moved in... Plan on pulling it out tomorrow as long as the weather holds up.

Got the engine out today! Finally...

A picture specifically of the cut cross-member for those interested in how much it needs to be cut to make room for the oil filter when swapping from a 302/351 to a 460:
