Hey Guys,

I am new to this forum as I just recently picked up a 1977 F-150. It is in pretty good shape but I think I have a bad wheel bearing. So, I need to remove the the calipers to be able to do that, but they seem to be pretty rusty and I can't get the retaining clip to move. Do you guys have any secrets as to how to free them up? This should be a simple job:-) Thanks for any insights or help.

 

I'd try PB blaster and a BFH.

 

PB Blaster, a brass drift and a 3-pound sledge. Should come right out.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was able to get my calipers of and found I needed new ones. I also learned you need to let PB blaster soak in for a bit and it will be all good. Though I still needed the 3# hammer:-) Thanks again and it sure is nice have quiet bearings.

 

I have seen the caliper slides so rusted had to heat up with a smoke wrench to drive out .Smoke wrench cutting torch. On these type of caliper slides once you get them out clean file off all rust of caliper contact points and slide and spring and coat with antisieze grease

 

Wow, that is pretty rusty. Yea, I did clean them up real good and used cailper grease on them. My plan at this point is check them about once a year and try to keep that from happening again.
