'80-'97 bed on '78 f150?

I've got a 78 f150 short bed, flareside, and I was wondering what it would look like with a newer style bed. I would be looking for a regular style bed not the flareside. Obviously a newer bed is easier to find. I did some searching and couldn't find any pics. The filler neck would be in a different spot but I could make it work. Any thoughts?

It would look horrible,
You could however put 73-79 bedsides on a newer bed

i've seen people do it before, it all lines up pretty decent but still looks dumb. there are so many 73-79 beds out there. Without much effort a decent bed could be found. The truck really looks hacked together with different year body parts IMO

Bust out a fat wallet for that 73-79 short wide box. But their well worth it in my eyes. I hate step sides with a passion! I had to deal with a ugly step side on my baby for 7 years till I found a good wide box to put on her. I have a lead on a 77 2wd SWB & I just want it for a spare incase I ever need one. I can't aford what the local guy wants for a rust free Texas box.

Body style "83" is a Flareside. A stepside is a Chevrolet.

1973/76 Styleside beds are different from 1977/79. 1973/76 left quarter panel (bedside) has exposed fuel caps, while 1977/79's have fuel doors. The filler necks are also specific.

Who needs a salvage title...

when you can just mismatch body parts to make it appear to be a salvage vehicle.

We need a like button on here! Not sure why certain people get their panties in a twist over calling a bed style out a certain way. We all knew what he was talking about so not sure why some can get all pissy over semantics? Ok, rant over - just annoys me...

Back on topic.

As for the looks - well, it just don't look right IMO.
The '73 F-250 long bed I has a while back had an 80's bed on it and I didn't like it. Unfortunately I don't think I have any pics of it on there.

No, my '74 F-100 supercab I put an 80's bed on there as my original bed was rusty in the floor and had a bunch of crapily repaired body damage at the tail lights.

I was going to be putting fiberglass bedsides on it anyway so since the inside of the beds was the same up until '96 I just got whatever bed I could that was cheap. I sold the truck before I ever put the fiberglass bedsides on, but here's the few pics I have of it with an '87 bed on it.

I don't mean to sound rude or anything like that but damn.... Do we have to be **** specific on every detail EVERY TIME SOME ONE SAYS STEP SIDE YA GOT BUST IN A CORRECT THEM. Get over it & worry about something a little more important. It has steps on it its a step side! Don't like it don't read it or pretend it says whatever you want it to say. Rant over.......... thank you have a nice day & please come again

So I have a 73-76 styleside, flareside, step side, whatever haha. I agree it doesn't look right, thanks for the pics!! Really leaning towards building a steel flatbed with wooden sides. . Hauled a bed full of 3/4 trap rock and nearly busted the tailgate off. It may not look like a rot box because it has a more recent paint job but its pretty bad. I do have a rust free passenger side fender and the cross rails are good, if anyone is looking for them. I shoul be taking the bed off in a few weeks

I don't think it looks bad with the newer flaresides anyway. Here's one for sale with an 86 bed on it.

That's a beautiful truck. Looks like the bed isn't wooden floored? Or maybe just a dark stain. I wonder why ford put wheel wells on the inside, the tire doesn't even come close to the bedside. I seen an early 80's flareside with fiberglass fenders. I assume that is aftermarket or are they all like that?

On my 79 SC I put a 91 8' bed on it. It helped that the solid colors were the same. The rear tank filler lined up. It wasn't "pure" but for a work truck....
