duallies suck in the snow,2wd or 4wd.you can convert it to 4wd if you really want, but i'd keep the better fuel economy of the lighter 2wd if it only snows a few times a year. just hitch a ride in to work and enjoy your truck the other 99.999999999999% of the year.
it's not as if you can build a 4wd dually off road truck anyway....well you could but for show, not for function.you'd just get stuck all the time still anyway.
enjoy her for what it is.if your bored and have $ to spend, then nothing short of buying new is going to cure the itch if that's what your into.

Downsides, well there really ain't any that I can think of but it depends what you need out of your truck. Newer stuff can have better tow ratings, if configured right.
Upsides: big open cab, parts are easy to come by, less electronics than newer trucks, more room to work on components, can use parts from older trucks or Bronco's, vent windows (try and get THAT on a newer truck!), decent amount of space in engine bay and under chassis to mount accessories, real bumpers that can take a hit without the rest of the truck falling apart, and... they just look so durn good!
Took me 6 months to find my current OBS truck. I wasn't gonna settle for anything else.

wow, well one good thing that I love about my truck is I can work on it, and I KNOW whats been done to it so I can confidently say I know its history
other then that the fact ford doesn't make these trucks is the biggest down fall...
oh another one, is modern trucks are too much like cars...
