I haven't started my truck yet. It's a barn find and there's lots to do. I need to replace the ignition switch and get a battery.

I don't have a shop manual to check for myself but I'm curious about the button on the dashboard. Did these trucks come with a starter button?

Welcome to the group. Nope, to my knowledge, and most others, ibuzzard is correct. The PO must have installed it for something. Maybe a horn button? Do some wire tracing, see where they go.

I have a 57 also.

Aloha.

Thanks! I do have to trace the wires. The more I poke around, the more odd stuff I find. That's the fun of it. The little patches and fixes give me a look into the old truck's life on the farm. Found out I'm only the 3rd owner.

Our '58 had a little chrome button low on the dash to the left of the steering column. It was for cutting the clearance and tail lights, as in signalling another vehicle to pass, thanking them for giving you space.

Truckers today will still give you the flash when you open up the lane for them, as I often do.

Oh, the Wife Silencer option. Best selling option on any vehicle.
