Check the fluid level in the transmission. If it still have the infamous rubber caps on the back of the top-cover, it could've leaked alot out and the trans could be short for this world.

That said, I recently paid $600 for a BEAT up 92 with 311k on the 300 and body, 30k on the trans. Damn thing runs great. I did have to replace the computer last week due to capacitor leakage/dying.
