Memorial Day thoughts
Hundreds of thousands of men and women have died defending our country and protecting the blessed life we all have. A number larger than that were injured; many suffering disabilities and pain the rest of their lives. These brave people experienced hardships, lost friends and comrades. They saw things we can’t even imagine …that are etched in their minds forever. Most won’t even talk about what they experienced. Some were buried in foreign soil.
Some did come home, lived a good life and died with all those memories. To a person, they deserve much more than they were given. So many undeserving people today are given honors and accolades without giving up a thing… haven’t suffered an injury…who only took advantage of a position.
Tomorrow when you’re at the lake or ball park… waiting to turn over the burgers on the grill… making potato salad or sitting in the shade with a cold beer enjoying remember those that have given so much and say a prayer of thanks for their sacrifice. And, while you have the Lord’s ear… say a prayer for those that are still in service… sacrificing what we take for granted every day. They serve in foreign lands away from their family and friends… they don’t have the option of enjoying this holiday with their kids. They miss all that to protect us… to let us have the good life. They deserve more.
and if you see a service person this weekend.... shake their hand and thank them for what they do or have done

Our truck club recently visited the USS Midway which is anchored here in San Diego as a floating museum. A good friend of mine was killed in an aircraft accident while stationed on the Midway in Oct, 1971. There is a memorial plaque on the bulkhead in the ship's chapel that has the names of all the sailors who lost their lives while in service on the Midway...his name was there. I know that there are many who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country but somehow seeing his name on that plaque brought it all home for me.
God bless the men and women who sacrifice for our freedom.
