I know this is an old thread but I just picked up my Lightning from a good friend who owned it since new. I don't want to go crazy with it but would like to put a nice exhaust on it with a cold air intake. Do I need to convert to MAF for those mods? or leave the speed density. Any suggestions on manufacture for those mods would be great.

For those mods, No. If you were to change cams and heads then Yes to a degree.

Agreed, you don't need to do a mass air conversion.

How much money are you looking to spend on exhaust and/or intake upgrades?

One of the first mods I did to mine was bumping the base timing up a few degrees. The higher the octane, the more the engine will take.
