Question Chips advantages

I have a 2005 Expedition, Eddie Bouer with the 5.4. Looking a putting a chip in it. I stays on the road most of the time, and want to boost mpg. Wanting to find out about what other have experienced by changing chips and which one is better, Im on a tight budget.
Thanks

First and foremost, chips and tuners are performance enhancers. Unless you get a custom tune that detunes your truck almost all of the tuners increase performance on some level. You may or your may not see any MPG gains. Even if you do, especially on a gas burner unless your really burning up the miles, even with the cost of fuel now, it will take a significant time for those savings to pay for the tuner (and tunes if you go the custom route) and then start saving to where it's actually a profit for you.

Now if you still are determined to get a tuner. I would suggest doing your research and a heavy amount of research. Me personally, in almost all instances I would recommend something that allows for custom tuning. These do cost more, however, but I'm of the mind that if you are going to do something, do it right. Can't afford it now, wait until you can. If you are on a tight budget now imagine if you make a mistake with your mod. I would be willing to bet your budget will be really tight then.

I would highly advise you get out of the mindset though for mpg gains, especially anything significant with a gas burner. Do it for the performance and enjoyment benefits, not for the economy. The whole marketing of tuners increase mpgs, I equate along with diet pills. The ones that show this person lost XX amount of weight in a month, but then in microscopic lettering it says "results not typical". Too many variables go into MPG to logically conclude that it's one item. Who knows what else might have change along with you adding that tuner, even things that you don't have any control over.
