Dana 44IFS 5 lug to 8 lug conversion
Hi I have a 1988 Ford Bronco with the Dana 44IFS 5 Lug axle in the front. I recently converted the master cylinder, booster, and rear wheel cylinders to one ton F350 parts. Breaks are very very strong now, just the way I wanted them . I was recently wanting to replace the 8.8" rear with the sterling 10.25" 8 lug axle, all anti-lock or course. I know for a fact that it should be a bolt on except for maybe the drive shaft but no big deal. If I do that, I would want 8 lugs in the front. I have heard that if I get the ford Dana 44HD 8 lug off of a F250 I could swap off parts of that axle and put them on a Dana 44 IFS. Is this true? Has anyone done this?? If you know how can you please tell me what years this axle came in and what specific parts are needed from the Dana 44HD. Thanks to all of those that share their info

Dana 44IFS 5 lug to 8 lug conversion
I did the sterling rear in my 95 150 almost a year ago and converted the front end about 3-4 months ago. I tried parts off of and f-250 and was unsucessful. The spindles were very different and would not work for me. I understand there was a 44hd and a dana 50 front used in the ttb 250's, and i am not sure which i tried. There are a few good posts about using chevy(well dana axle from a chevy) to make it work. It must be late 70's before they switched to a corporate axle in the front and i believe it must be light duty 3/4 ton so the axles and everything work out ok. I did it but still plan on doing a d60 up front due to the bad alignment problems with the ttb, and i'd like a stronger axle. Good luck. Be glad to answer more questions, or give the forums a good looking at. There are some good posts about it.

Thanks for the info, I found a web sight that uses chevy k20 dana 44 parts to swap parts into the TTB ford dana 44. I agree with the alignment problems, but Tough Country suspention lifts has made drop brackets for the TTB Dana 44 that will let you adjust the alignment with a screw like many of the late model trucks like toyota and many other. JC Whitney sells them they are only about $100 dollars I believe, and there are longer drop brackets for higher lifts. Maybe a good temporary solution for your alignment problems before you drop a big load of cash for that D60.
