Rear Cab corner help!

As I have previously posted, I have been replacing the rusted out cab corners. Last week I started on the RH rear.

I got the inner cab corner all set in place and installed with no issues. It lined up with the new rocker and original rear cab post. I did notice after I started tacking it into place that it was slightly misaligned in the back.

I am planning on pulling it back off and align it better. However my real issue is with the front side of the rear outer cab corner panel.

Even with shifting the panel to line up the rear stiffening rib, there will still be a large gap where the outer, inner and rocker panels meet the door post.

My question is this something that any of you have seen or experienced yourselves? Do I have something else out of position? As it sits the door would never line up or close.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Did you replace the inner panel you took out? Most patch panels require some rework to fit properly. Repro patch panels are often made by taking epoxy or low melting metal patterns off OEM panels, which often didn't fit properly in the first place, and pressing with hydraulic presses rather than with heavy weight drop forges over steel dies, so they have more springback and tend to come out slightly oversized with "softer" bends than originals, especially where you have step bends. Best thing to do is hang the door and adjust the patch fit/shape to match the door.

Yea inner panel replaced. Looks like I am going to be taking cab off rack so I can install door and check fit. Not looking forward to that.

The picture of the lower door post area you are concerned with looks exactly like mine did when I installed my cab corners. I scabbed in pieces to make up for the missing metal. Look through my resto pics through the link below. I think I have some good pics from that ordeal.

Rick

Thanks for the post and pics! It is just what I needed. Looks like I am going to be busy tomorrow doing some sheet metal work.

Awesome

I will be doing that same job very soon myself, thanks for the post, I'm thinking that I may just patch the necessary piece instead of the hole panel, my rust is very small and I don't want to deal with that door issue. My inner is in great shape so just have the outside to contend with. Great Job!!

Hey Indy,
That cab corner looks good - all these reproduction patch panels need massaging as they don't line up perfectly. Be careful & take your time on getting that door to fit just right - go slow on that one & make sure you like the gap all the way around door opening. (We got one right - the other one has too much of a gap - It's a pain to do more adjusting after they are painted - grrr).

Looking good over there in Indiana.
