Tranny wont shift
I have a 1990 F150 with a 5.0 and an automatic . Recently loaned it to my daughter when her car broke down. It needed the water pump replaced but when her friend did that it broke the seal behind the timing cover and started spewing coolant acouple days later. It came back to me on a flatbed and i repaired the gasket and water leak. On the test drive to check if all was well, the transmission wouldnt upshift. I put it in drive and it starts out in 1st and just stays there wont upshift at all. I tried to manually shift it by starting out in low and moving the lever through the gears but it wont shift. Linkage feels fine no binding or anything, goes into park, reverse, etc. Works fine in reverse no slipping, no burnt fluid smell no odd noises, topped up fluid and no difference. Looking for any ideas, is there a vacuum modulator, does the govenor (if it has one) control both automatic shifting and manual shifting? I asked my daughter if it did anything like that when she was driving it and she said no. I have never adjusted the tv cable could that cause this type of problem? And if so is there a link to this procedure probably wouldnt hurt since I have never adjusted it and have had the truck 10 years or so. Thanks in advance for any and all help, Scott.
